In 1996, Monitor Audio released the Reference Series 700 PMC loudspeakers, comprising four models: the 700 PMC, 702 PMC, 703 PMC, and 705 PMC. This series featured Gold Dome tweeters and Profile Monitor cones, previously found only in the more expensive Studio series. These speakers utilized low-loss capacitors and bi-wiring, which helped reduce noise and improve dynamic reproduction. What HiFi magazine rated them 5 stars, calling them "phenomenal value for money." They also received the HiFi News and HiFi Choice seals of approval. The series' tagline was "Nature's Greatest Sound Effect."
