Service & Repair

Expert care for vintage audio — from first assessment to safe return.
Vintage audio equipment is complex, delicate, and often decades old. Before asking a customer to ship a unit across countries, GLOBAL OPT first tries to understand the issue remotely and evaluate whether service is practical, useful, and technically reasonable.
Our goal is to protect the customer from unnecessary shipping, unnecessary costs, and unclear expectations.
What We Service
GLOBAL OPT provides diagnostics, maintenance, and repair support for selected vintage audio equipment, including:
- Boomboxes;
- Cassette decks;
- Reel-to-reel tape recorders;
- Turntables;
- Receivers;
- Amplifiers;
- Speakers and audio systems;
- Selected related vintage audio components.
Equipment is accepted for service after preliminary review and approval. In most cases, we work with audio equipment manufactured approximately between 1975 and 1995.
Step 1 — Send Us a Short Video First
Before sending any equipment to us, please contact GLOBAL OPT and provide a short video showing the issue as clearly as possible.
The video should help us understand:
- The external condition of the unit;
- What happens when the unit is powered on;
- Sound issues, noise, distortion, or missing channels;
- Tape transport or loading mechanism problems;
- Reel, cassette, turntable, or control movement;
- Display, lights, meters, switches, buttons, or mechanical behavior;
- Any unusual sounds, smells, movement, or visible damage.
Please describe the problem as clearly as possible in the video or in your message. The more information we receive at the beginning, the better we can help.
Step 2 — Preliminary Technical Review
After receiving your video and description, we forward the information to our technical specialists.
They review the issue and provide a preliminary opinion about:
- The likely nature of the fault;
- Whether the unit is technically suitable for service;
- Whether shipping the unit to us is reasonable;
- Whether key parts or service resources may be available;
- Whether the expected repair makes practical and financial sense.
This step helps avoid unnecessary international shipping when the repair is unlikely to be practical or cost-effective.
Step 3 — Approval Before Shipping
If our technical team believes that service may be possible and reasonable, we will provide preliminary instructions.
Only after this initial approval should the customer pack and ship the equipment to the GLOBAL OPT central service location in Ukraine.
The customer is responsible for careful packing and for following the shipping instructions provided by GLOBAL OPT. Vintage audio equipment is fragile, heavy, and sensitive to poor packaging, so proper protection is essential.
Step 4 — Physical Diagnostics
After the unit arrives, our technicians perform a physical diagnostic inspection.
At this stage, we confirm or correct the preliminary assessment and check the real technical condition of the equipment.
After diagnostics, we inform the customer about:
- The confirmed issue;
- Whether the repair is possible;
- Estimated repair cost;
- Required parts, if any;
- Expected repair approach;
- Alternative options if repair is not reasonable.
Step 5 — Customer Decision
After receiving our diagnostic conclusion, the customer decides how to proceed.
Possible options may include:
- Proceeding with the repair;
- Returning the unit without repair;
- Discussing alternative solutions;
- In selected cases, offering the unit for purchase by GLOBAL OPT if repair is not practical or the customer no longer wants to proceed.
We aim to provide clear options so the customer can make an informed decision.
Step 6 — Repair and Final Testing
If the customer approves the repair, our technical team performs the agreed work.
After the repair is completed, we prepare a control video showing that the reported issue has been addressed and demonstrating the working functions where possible.
This gives the customer visual confirmation before the unit is packed and returned.
Step 7 — Safe Return Shipping
After final testing, the unit is carefully packed for return shipping.
GLOBAL OPT uses secure packing methods, tracking, and insurance where available and appropriate. The goal is to return the equipment safely and protect the result of the completed service work.
60-Day Customer Care Program After Completed Service
For repair work completed by GLOBAL OPT, the customer receives the 60-day Customer Care Program for the specific work performed.
This support applies to the repaired issue and begins from the date the carrier confirms return delivery to the customer.
It does not apply to unrelated faults, new damage, incorrect voltage use, unauthorized opening, improper operation, or issues not connected to the completed service work.
Important Notes
Vintage audio equipment can have multiple age-related issues. Some problems may only become visible after diagnostics or after one fault is repaired.
GLOBAL OPT always tries to provide honest, practical, and technically reasonable advice. We do not recommend shipping a unit for service unless we believe there is a realistic chance that our help will be useful.
